Music is a wonderful equalizer. I have a story to share. When I was in high school, I met a wonderful friend who played cello. We played together in a string quartet and had fun musical experiences. I later found out that he was from a severely disfunctional family and had absolutely no support from home. He did not live at home with his family. As a matter of fact, I never knew where he lived, but he was talented, he was a nice guy and he was my friend.
Because of his talent and personal attributes, he received a scholarship to study with one of the finest private teachers in the area while in high school. After high school, he received a full scholarship to college…and then a got a scholarship to graduate school…and then he earned a Doctorate of Musical Arts Degree.
This young man became an esteemed professor of music at a major university. The trajectory of his life was forever changed because of music.
