Chicago Sinfonietta BYOB (Bring Your Own Beat) Concert!
Monday, Mar 14, 2016
7:30 pm
Symphony Center
220 S Michigan Ave.
Chicago, IL 60604
Get ready to make some noise. Chicago Sinfonietta thwarts the “well-behaved” symphony experience with incredible guest percussionists and a raucous finale that invites audience members to literally play with the orchestra using their own DIY instruments. BYOB: Bring Your Own Beat will be anything but typical for a night at the symphony (and yes, jeans are allowed.)
This concert begins fittingly with William Grant Still’s infectious Festive Overture. Ricardo Lorenz’s Maracas Concerto follows featuring Alcides Rodriguez performing on this unusual solo instrument. The second half features Jennifer Higdon’s Percussion Concerto performed by CSO principal percussionist, Cynthia Yeh, and concludes with the audience joining with the orchestra in a starring role on the first ever DIY Estancia Dances. Yes, you will get to play along with our musicians in a fun-filled, raucous finale!
Plus, join us pre-concert and during intermission, to create your own percussion instruments, take a spin on Chicago artist Dave Ford’s Swing Set Drum Kit installation and enjoy complimentary tequila tastings from El Jimador.
