Wow…this has turned out to be a very busy weekend. Five engagements within a span of two days. On Friday, I performed for a lovely luncheon in Northbrook, after which I presented a lecture for students on the topic of “Identifying Your Personal Strengths.”
On Saturday, I was the keynote speaker at the NAACP Freedom Fund Luncheon in Hammond, Indiana. I was particularly honored to have been asked to present at this event, as Donna Brazile was last year’s speaker. Donna Brazile is an American author, academic, and political analyst who is Vice Chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee. She was the first African American to direct a major presidential campaign, acting as campaign manager for Al Gore in 2000. Brazile is a weekly contributor and political commentator on CNN’s The Situation Room and American Morning. Brazile & Associates. I was very excited to have received a standing ovation upon the conclusion of my presentation for the NAACP. What a thrill.
Today, I’ll be performing a mid-day show for the Italian American Heritage Association. I have sung for this organization on many occasions and I always enjoy the camaraderie and the warm welcome that I receive from attendees. I will be singing a couple of songs in Italian, along with some standard jazz tunes. Legendary Chicago musicians Frank Caruso on piano and Nick Schneider on bass will accompany me for this engagement.
Tonight, I will be performing on the Marshall Vente WDCB Radio “Jazz Tropicale Cruise” onboard the Tall Ship Windy, sailing from beautiful Navy Pier in Chicago. I will complete a trio of Divas consisting of Brazilian singer Dill Costa and Haitian singer Marie Alexander. This is a wonderful twice-annual event and is always a lot of fun. Fingers are crossed for clear skies for tonight’s exciting voyage on beautiful Lake Michigan.
