We often think of courage within the realm of heroism. We think that an individual who has accomplished great things is courageous. In our minds, the word courage is reserved for a person who has saved a life or a person who has positively changed the world. I have heard many definitions of courage and many opinions of what courage is.
According to wiktionary.com, courage is:
The quality of a confident character not to be afraid or intimidated easily.
The ability to do things which one finds frightening.
Mark Twain said this of courage:
“Courage is not the absence of fear. It is acting in spite of it.”
I recently heard a statement about courage that touched me profoundly, as I have often found it to be true. Here it is:
Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, “I will try again tomorrow.”
